Shipton Bellinger has a “Good Neighbours” scheme, which is linked into a National network through both Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council.
Shipton Good Neighbours (SGN) is run by local volunteers who are able to offer transport and a range of associated services to village residents. The scheme is particularly aimed at those villagers who have difficulty in travelling, especially to medical appointments or collecting prescriptions.
Shipton Good Neighbours can help with the following, subject to availability of volunteers, within the local area:
Transport to and from hospital and doctor appointments.
Transport to and from other medical and dental appointments.
Transport to visit others in hospital.The collection of prescriptions.
Other transport requirements, such as shopping and hairdressing, subject to individual needs and distance.
Please be advised that all the volunteer drivers are DBS security checked by Hampshire.
All requests for assistance by SGN should be made to the Duty Co-Ordinator by calling0845-269-3942.
If the Duty Co-Ordinator is not available then you can leave a message, and you will receive a call back in due course.
Please give a much notice as possible, as drivers may not always be available at short notice. A minimum of 48 hours is required.
Shipton Good Neighbours is currently reimbursed by Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) if a client has a valid TVBC Bus Pass. This means that the service if free to those with a valid Bus Pass. However, this does not cover all the operating costs, and clients are invited to make a donation to their driver, and especially if not in possession of a valid Bus Pass.
